• Welcome to MuseoCycle.

MuseoCycle is a hub for museum professionals interested in circular material reuse.

We connect cultural heritage institutions and professionals to extend the life of exhibition and storage furniture, archival materials, supplies and any other surplus or reusable items that need a new home. Our goal is to divert useful resources from the landfill and to support access to these resources by museum professionals and their allies who could use them. This includes conservators, preparators, art handlers, collections care professionals, private contractors and businesses who may need resources to bolster their exhibitions or practices.

  • What do we do?

Currently, through a partnership with Barder.art,, MuseoCycle maintains the MuseoCycle Circle: a network of vetted museum and arts professionals on the Barder platform.

In the future, MuseoCycle hopes to be a hub with additional tools for material reuse for museum professionals, especially around collections care and exhibition materials.

  • Instructions for posting:

MuseoCycle Circle members can access Barder - including the MuseoCycle Circle - on either museocycle.org/barder or barder.art. The same login credentials will work on either portal.

Please fill out as much relevant information as you think necessary for someone to be interested in an item beyond the required forms. You can ignore any form boxes that do not apply to your item. Keep your posts updated if they are no longer available, or set an automatic expiration date.

Once posted, transactions are peer-to-peer and fully the responsibility of the two parties. Please provide a reliable way for a Sourcing party to contact you, and please be ready to complete the transaction once it has been initiated. This includes understanding and preparing for any paperwork and/or permissions from your institutions to release an item to another party.

  • Important note:

MuseoCycle Circle members can post items to the private, moderated MuseoCycle Circle network and/or to Barder’s public network, which is available to all Barder members, with previews of item listings visible to anyone. Items are posted to the public network by default. If you do not wish to post your item to the general public, please select the MuseoCycle circle in the dropdown box—this will limit your posting to the moderated Circle of MuseoCycle members only. MuseoCycle members can view all posted items (both Barder.art and MuseoCycle Circles) while general Barder members only have access to public postings. While we encourage all posts to go to the public Barder network, posts to the MuseoCycle Circle provide an added level of security when that feels right.

  • Transactions on Barder.art via the MuseoCycle Circle.

Posts are moderated and may take up to 48 hours to be live.

Please include as many details as possible, including photos.

All transactions are peer-to-peer. If you post an item on the exchange network, it is up to you to communicate about exchange details and complete the transaction. It is best to establish which institution the interested party is associated with, or if an individual (for example, an artist or independent contractor) is legitimate. Interested parties should expect to abide by any guidelines set forth by the person or institution that posts an item.

Beyond providing the hub to connect the two parties, neither MuseoCycle nor Barder is involved any further in the transaction. While we try to moderate all users of the site, please use discretion. MuseoCycle and Barder both retain the right to remove any institution or individual from the network if concerns about security or trust are raised by any network member.

We are doing our best to fill a well-recognized need at no cost to most users. Please help support the success of this platform by using it respectfully.
